Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in August 2013. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in August 2013 will be disseminated on coming 16 October.

In August 2013, exports to non-EU countries decreased by 5.4% and imports decreased by 15.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 559 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 903 million euro deficit in the same month of 2012.

In August 2013, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 0.2% and imports decreased by 0.5% compared with July 2013. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.4% decrease in outgoing flows and a 2.2% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-August 2013 exports to non-EU countries increased by 2.3% and imports decreased by 10.7% compared with the same period of 2012. The trade balance registered a surplus of 11,057 million euro compared to the deficit of 4,542 million euro in the same period of 2012. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 45,209 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 38,323 million euro surplus in January-August 2012.
