Extra-Eu foreign trade
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in August 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in August 2011 will be disseminated on coming 14 October.
In August 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 15.1% and imports by 10.9% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 2,399 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 2,546 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.
In August 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 1.1% and imports increased by 2.3% compared with July 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.2% increase in outgoing flows and a 2.5% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In the period January-August 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 16.5% and imports by 20.8% compared with the same period of 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 20,535 million euro compared to the deficit of 13,708 million euro in the same period of 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 19,840 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 20,275 million euro surplus in January- August 2010.
