Foreign trade with non-EU countries

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in June 2016. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in June 2016 will be disseminated on coming 11 August.

In June 2016 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 2.8% and imports decreased by 13.0% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 3,462 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 2,052 million euro surplus in the same month of 2015.

In June 2016, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 0.3% and imports decreased by 0.5% compared with May 2016. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 2.9% increase in outgoing flows and a 2.4% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the first half of 2016 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 3.9% and imports decreased by 8.8% compared with the same period of 2015. The trade balance registered a surplus of 16,474 million euro compared to the surplus of 13,087 million euro in the same period of 2015. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 28,399 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 29,491 million euro surplus in January-June 2015.
