Foreign trade with non-EU countries
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in August 2016. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in August 2016 will be disseminated on coming 17 October.
In August 2016 exports to non-EU countries increased by 11.0% and imports increased by 5.2% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 2,127 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 1,383 million euro surplus in the same month of 2015.
In August 2016, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 0.9% and imports decreased by 2.5% compared with July 2016. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data of outgoing flows were stationary and seasonally-adjusted data of incoming flows increased by a 2.5% in comparison with the previous three months.
In the period January-August 2016 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 3.3% and imports decreased by 7.7% compared with the same period of 2015. The trade balance registered a surplus of 23,488 million euro compared to the surplus of 19,487 million euro in the same period of 2015. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 40,007 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 41,235 million euro surplus in January-August 2015.
