Foreign trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2005=100) referring to September 2010. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for September 2010 data will be disseminated on coming November 19th.

· In September 2010, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade raised by 16.4% for exports (12.8% for non EU countries and 19.0% for EU area) and by 23.9% (+31.8% for non EU and +18.3 for EU countries) for imports. The trade balance amounts to -3.2 billion Euro (table 1) compared with the -1 billion Euro registered in the same month of 2009.

· September 2010 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to August, presented an increase for exports (+3.0 %) with a higher performance for EU area (+3.4%) and a lower increase (+2.5%) for non EU countries. Imports are quite stable (+0.1%), with opposite dynamics: +1.1% for EU countries and -1.2% on extra-EU side. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison ith the previous three months, showed an increase of 4.0% in outgoing flows and of 2.9% in incoming flows.

· In the period January-September 2010, compared with the same period of the previous year, trade increased by 14.3% for exports (15.1% for non EU countries and 13.7% for EU area) and by 20.9% (26.5 for non EU and 16.6% for EU countries) for imports. The trade balance showed a deficit of 19.2 billion Euro (table 1) which increased the negative result of 4.1 billion Euro registered in the same period of the previous year.
