Foreign trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2010=100) referring to January 2013. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for January 2013 has been disseminated on February 25th .

  • In January 2013 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to December 2012, showed an increase of 1.4% for export and a of 0.4% for imports. The increase, for exports, was synthesis of a growth for non EU (+3.9%) and a drop for EU (-0.7%) countries. As regards imports the rise was recorded for non EU countries only (+3,0%) compared to the fall of EU markets (-1.8%). Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous three months, showed a decrease for both: -0.2% for outgoing flows and -2.5% for incoming flows.
  • In January 2013, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade rose by 8.7% for exports (+2.6% for EU area and +17.6% for non EU countries) and dropped by 1.8% for imports (+2.4% for EU and -5.6% for non EU countries). The trade balance amounted to -1.6 billion Euro (table 1) compared with -4.6 billion Euro registered in the same month of 2012.
