Foreign trade and import prices - May 2024
In May 2024 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to April 2024, decreased both for exports (-3.8%) and for imports (-0.5%). Exports decreased by -3.3% for EU countries and by -4.4% for non-EU countries. Imports decreased by -1.9% for EU countries and increased by +1.5% for non-EU countries.
Over the last quarter, seasonally-adjusted data, compared to the previous one, increased slightly for exports (+0.1%) and rose by +1.9% for imports.
In May 2024, compared with the same month of the previous year, exports decreased by -1.7% and imports by -5.0%. Outgoing flows declined for EU countries (-3.9%) and increased for non-EU countries (+0.6%). Incoming flows both decreased by -4.6% for EU area and by –5.6% for non-EU area.
In May 2024, trade balance registered a surplus of +6,430 million Euros (+524 million Euros surplus for EU countries and +5,906 million Euros surplus for non-EU countries). Excluding energy, trade balance surplus was equal to +10,451 million Euros.
In May 2024, import prices increased by 0.1% on monthly basis (+0.4% for the euro zone, -0.1% for the non-euro zone). Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, import prices increased by 0.7% (+0.3% for the euro zone, +1.3% for the non-euro zone).
Import prices, compared to the same month a year ago, decreased by 0.2% (-0.8% for the euro zone and +0.5% for the non-euro zone).
