Export of Italian regions
In the second quarter of 2020, exports dropped in seasonally-adjusted terms, compared with the previous period, by -28.2% for the South and Islands, by -26.6% for the North-West, by -23.2% for the North-East and by -23.1% for the Centre.
In the first six months of 2020, compared with the previous year, exports decreased in the Islands (-20.4%), in the North-West (-16.1%), in the Centre (-15.3%), in the North-East (-14.3%) and in the South (-13.4%).
In the first six months of 2020, more relevant falls, according to their contribution to the total export decrease, were recorded in Lombardia (-15.3%), Piemonte (-21.2%), Veneto (-14.6%) and Emilia-Romagna (-14.2%) while increases were recorded only in Molise (+30.2%) and Liguria (+3.7%).
Covid-19 crisis had an impact on Intrastat survey and a decrease of number of submitted declarations for February, March and April 2020 was registered mainly as consequence of the deferral to 30 June of the transmission deadlines envisaged by the “Cura Italia” Decree; on the contrary, the Extrastat survey didn’t record technical and organizational issues regarding data collection.
The actions carried out to tackle the issues in Intrastat survey have made it possible to process and disseminate Italian regions export data of the first half of 2020. These will be subject to revision.
