Employment and unemployment (monthly)

In February 2022 the number of employed people increased, while a drop was recorded for both unemployed and inactive persons.

On a monthly basis, the rise of employment (+0.4%, +81 thousand) concerned both men and women, as well as people under the age of 50, while over 50 aged people were substantially stable. Overall, the employment rate grew to 59.6% (+0.3 p.p.).

In the last month, the decline of unemployed people (-1.4%, -30 thousand) concerned only men and all age groups except people aged 25-34. The unemployment rate fell to 8.5% (-0.1 p.p.), the youth rate to 24.2% (-0.6 p.p.).

In February the drop of inactive people aged 15-64 (-0.6%, -79 thousand) was recorded for both men and women, and also for 25-49 years old people. The inactivity rate decreased to 34.8% (-0.2 p.p.).

In the period December 2021-February 2022, with respect to the previous quarter (September-November), the employment rose (+0.4%, +100 thousand).

In the last three months, a drop was registered for both unemployed persons (-4.3%, -98 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.7%, -87 thousand).

Compared with February 2021, the number of employed persons increased by 3.5% (+777 thousand), the growth concerning both genders and all age groups; the employment rate showed an increase of 2.6 p.p. .

On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of both unemployed persons (-15.0%, -375 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-5.3%, -723 thousand).
