Employment and unemployment (monthly)

In order to improve the timeliness of statistical information on the Italian labour market and in accordance with the agreements made within the European Union, Istat publishes monthly estimates of the main labour market indicators resulting from the “Labour force survey”.

In August 2017, 23.124 million persons were employed, +0.2% over July 2017. Unemployed were 2.903 million, -1.4% over the previous month.

Employment rate was 58.2%, +0.1 percentage points over July 2017, unemployment rate was 11.2%, -0.2 percentage points over the previous month, and inactivity rate was 34.3%, unchanged in a month.

Youth unemployment rate (aged 15-24) was 35.1%, -0.2 percentage points over the previous month and youth unemployment ratio in the same age group was 9.5%, unchanged over July 2017.
