In the last month, the decline in the number of unemployed people (-3.1%, -48 thousand) affected both sexes and all age groups, except for 25-34 year olds. The unemployment rate fell to 5.9% (-0.2 p.p.), as well as the youth rate, down to 19.2% (-1.2 p.p.).

In April, the number of inactive people grew (+0.3%, +39 thousand) for men, women and all age groups, except for those aged 25-34, for whom inactivity decreased. The inactivity rate increased at 33.2% (+0.1 p.p.).

In the quarter February-April 2025, with respect to the previous one (November 2024-January 2025), employment increased (+0.4%, +96 thousand).

On a quarterly basis, a fall was registered in both the number of unemployed persons (-3.4%, -55 thousand) and in the number of inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.4%, -44 thousand).

Compared with April 2024, the number of employed persons increased by 1.2% (+282 thousand); the growth affected both sexes and those in the 25-34 and 50+ age groups, while employment decreased for people aged 15-24 and 35-49. Over the year, the employment rate showed an increase of 0.5 p.p. .

On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of unemployed people           (-12.2%, -209 thousand) and an increase of the inactive people aged 15-64 (+0.1%, +14 thousand).
