Employment and unemployment (provisional data) - June 2026

In June 2026, the number of employed remained substantially unchanged, while the number of unemployed people increased and the number of inactive people decreased.

On a monthly basis, the stability of employment was the result of a growth among men and those aged    25-34 and 50 and over, and a fall among women and those aged 15-24 and 35-49. Overall, the employment rate remained steady at 62.9%.

In the last month, the rise in the number of unemployed people (+7.2%, +97 thousand) affected men, women and all age groups. The unemployment rate climbed to 5.7% (+0.4 p.p.), while the youth rate rose to 18.4% (+1.5 p.p.).

In June, the decrease in the number of inactive people aged 15-64 (-0.8%, -103 thousand) affected both sexes and all age groups. The inactivity rate dropped to 33.2% (-0.3 p.p.).

In the quarter April-June 2026, with respect to the previous one (January-March 2026), employment rose (+0.5%, +116 thousand).

On a quarterly basis, a growth was registered in the number of unemployed persons (+0.8%, +11 thousand), while the number of inactive people aged 15-64 fell (-0.9%, -115 thousand).

Compared to June 2025, the number of employed persons increased (+0.5%, +131 thousand); the rise affected both sexes, the 25-34 and 50+ age groups, while employment decreased among those aged  15-24 and 35-49. Over the year, the employment rate grew (+0.3 p.p.).

On a yearly basis, the number of unemployed people fell (-3.6%, -54 thousand), while the number of inactive people aged 15-64 increased (-0.7%, -92 thousand).
