Business confidence

In October 2014 the composite business confidence climate index (IESI, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator) increased to 89.3 from 86.9 in September.

The confidence index in manufacturing rose to 96.0 from 95.5. Assessments on order books improved (from -26 to -25) and production expectations remained stable (to 2); inventories remained stable (to 3).

The confidence index in construction rose to 77.5 from 75.5. Employment expectations improved (from -23 to -21) but assessments on order books and construction plans worsened (from -48 to -50).

The market services confidence index rose to 89.2 from 85.1. The index increased in Transportation and storage (from 82.8 to 85.1) and in Tourism services (from 68.9 to 83.9) while it decreased in Information and communication (from 93.4 to 92.9) and in Business services and other services (from 84.8 to 83.9).

The retail trade confidence index rose to 93.9 from 92.1. The confidence increased in the large-scale distribution (from 89.9 to 91.8) and in small and medium scale distribution (from 94.8 to 96.7).
