2013: the International Year of Statistics

The International Year of Statistics is a worldwide celebration.
	The founding organizations are the American Statistical Association, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, International Biometric Society, International Statistical Institute (and the Bernoulli Society), and Royal Statistical Society. The campaign’s primary objectives are to: 1. Increase public awareness of the power and impact of statistics on all aspects of society; 2. Nurture statistics as a profession, especially among young people; 3. Promote creativity and development in the sciences of probability and statistics.
Nearly 2,027 organizations—professional statistical societies, colleges and universities, primary and secondary schools, businesses, government entities, and research institutes— are participating in this worldwide event promoting statistics and its powerful and far-reaching effects on society. These organizations are located in 122 countries spanning the world.
