Master EMOS
Istat adheres to the EMOS (European Master in Official Statistics) project promoted by Eurostat, which involves the joint participation of universities and data producers in Europe, aimed at defining training courses at master’s degree level whose programmes include topics related to official statistics at the European level.
As part of the project, the Institute has signed collaboration agreements with some Italian universities for the creation of teaching modules on official statistics and participation in teaching activities within specific degree courses.
EMOS is therefore a quality mark assigned by the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) to nationally accredited master’s programmes in official statistics and related disciplines.
The EMOS Master aims to:
- promote postgraduate training in official statistics at universities across Europe
- train qualified statisticians on models and methods of statistical production and topics such as economy, society, industry, environment
- to train qualified statisticians on models and methods of statistical production and topics such as economics, society, industry, environment
The objectives are:
- to promote postgraduate education in official statistics and data science at universities across Europe
- to train students to become highly qualified statisticians with expertise in official statistics
- to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among European producers of official statistics and lecturers, researchers, and students in this sector
The EMOS network comprises over 30 programmes in approximately 15 countries. Universities offering EMOS-labelled master’s programmes collaborate with National Statistical Institutes, national central banks, and other organisations that produce statistics and are committed to:
- jointly deliver courses
- offer internships
- supervise master’s theses and research projects
- promote official statistics among students
- Sapienza University of Rome (Rome): Data Cleaning and Integration in Official Statistics | Data Quality and other topics of official statistics
- University of Pisa: European statistical system and data production model | Survey methods: traditional and new techniques in official statistics
- University of Florence: Design and analysis of sample surveys | Principles & Practices of official statistics
Applications from students enrolled in Universities participating in EMOS (European Master in Official Statistics) are given preference in the assignment of curricular training interships offered by Istat.
