Crime groups

Offence groups are categories that cut across the groupings established for the classifications used by Istat or represent an attribute shared by multiple offences.

They therefore aggregate the elements of the Catalogue of offences in a manner that is different from, and considerably more flexible than, the organisation of offence classifications. For each element, its inclusion or non-inclusion in a given offence group of interest to crime researchers is specified. An element may thus be associated with multiple groups, independently of a strictly legal categorisation.
