The National Institute of Statistics informs that, pending the completion of the new
appointment of the President, as of today Professor Francesco Maria Chelli assumes the
position of Acting President.
The Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (Dpcm) of 9 May was registered
today by the Court of Auditors. The appointment, pursuant to Article 16 of Legislative Decree
No. 322 of 1989, is free of charge.
Professor Chelli, currently the longest-serving member of the Istat Council, had already been
guaranteeing the operation of ordinary administration acts as well as the legal representation
of the Institute since 22 March last, following the expiry of the ‘prorogatio’ period of President
Gian Carlo Blangiardo.
