In February 2022 estimates for seasonally adjusted index of retail trade rose in the month on month series, increasing by 0.7% in value terms and by 0.4% in volume terms.
In the three months to February 2022 both value and volume of sales grew by 0.4% when compared with the previous three-month period.
In February 2022 both value and volume of retail trade continued to grow for the 12th month in a row in the year on year series. Value sales increased by 4.3% and volume sales rose by 1.9% comparing to February 2021.
In February 2022, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 3.6%, small-scale distribution rose by 5.4% and non-store retail sales grew by 2.7%.
After falling in December 2021 and January 2022, online sales increased by 5.0% in February 2022 when compared with February 2021.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, all sectors experienced growth. The largest increases were reported for sporting equipment, games and toys (+8.4%), other goods (+8.1%), shoes, leather goods and travel items (+8.1%) and pharmaceutical products (+8.1%). Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines recorded the smallest increase (+0.1%).
