Foreign trade and industrial import prices

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2010=100) referring to July 2016.

 

  • In July 2016 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to June 2016, decreased by 0.6% for outgoing flows and increased by 0.5% for incoming flows. Exports reduced by 1.1% for EU countries and increased by 0.2% for non EU countries. Imports increased by +1.5% for non EU countries and fell down by 0.2% for EU countries. During the quarter May-July 2016, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous quarter, increased by 0.7% for exports and by 0.8% for imports.
  • In July 2016, compared with the same month of the previous year, exports decreased by 7.3% and imports by 8.3%. Outgoing flows fell down by 6.1% for EU countries and by 8.8% for non EU countries. Incoming flows reduced by 6.3 for EU area and by 11.1% for non EU area. The trade balance in July amounted to +7,8 billion Euros (+2,9 billion Euros for EU area and +4,9 billion Euros for non EU countries).

The import price index measures the evolution of prices for industrial products bought by industrial and commercial enterprises in Italy, both in the euro zone and the non-euro zone. Since March 2010 indices are compiled in the reference base 2010.

In July 2016 the total import price index decreased by 0.3% with respect to the previous month (the index increased by 0.1% in the euro zone and decreased by 0.7% for the non-euro zone); the total twelve-month rate of change decreased by 4.1% (respectively decreased by 1.7% for the euro zone and by 6.0% for the non-euro zone).

The quarterly total index increased by 1.7% compared with the previous period, by 0.3% for the euro zone and by 2.8% for the euro zone.
