Consumer and business confidence

In September 2015 with regard to the consumer survey, the confidence climate index increased from 109.3 to 112.7. The increase is explained by all components: economic, personal, current and future, which rose from 133.1 to 143.2, from 101.4 to 103.6, from 104.0 to 108.0 and from 117.7 to 122.0, respectively. The balance concerning expectations on unemployment decreased from 25 to 7. The balance on inflation perceptions referring to the last 12 months decreased from -14 to -19. The balance on inflation expectations for next 12 months also decreased from -14 to -18.

With regard to business surveys, the composite business confidence climate index (IESI, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator) increased from 103.9 in August to 106.2.

The confidence index in manufacturing rose from 102.7 to 104.2. Assessments on order books and production expectations improved (from -15 to -11 and from 11 to 12, respectively), and inventories remained stable (to 3).

The confidence index in construction rose from 119.5 to 123.3. Assessments on order books and construction plans and employment expectations improved (from -32 to -30 and from -10 to -7, respectively).

The market services confidence index rose from 110.0 to 112.2. The index increased in Information and communication (from 102.5 to 106.3) and in Business services and Other services (from 101.8 to 106.4) while it decreased in Transportation and storage (from 128.3 to 125.5) and in Tourism services (from 116.6 to 103.7).

The retail trade confidence index rose from 107.8 to 108.8. The confidence increased in the large scale distribution (from 105.8 to 106.1) and in small and medium scale distribution (from 112.1 to 114.5).
