Consumer and business confidence

In July 2015 with regard to the Consumer survey, the confidence climate index decreased from 109.3 to 106.5. The decrease is explained by all components: economic, personal, current and future, which fall respectively from 138.6 to 127.9, from 100.0 to 99.5, from 103.3 to 101.7 and from 119.2 to 114.6. The balance concerning expectations on unemployment increased from 10 to 28. The balance on inflation perceptions referring to the last 12 months increased from -21 to -17 registered in the previous month. The balance on inflation expectations for next 12 months decreased from -20 to -22.

With regard to business surveys, the composite business confidence climate index (IESI, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator) decreased from 104.7 in June to 104.3.

The confidence index in manufacturing fell from 103.9 to 103.6. Assessments on order books improved (from -13 to -12) and production expectations remained stable (to 11); inventories increased (from 2 to 3).

The confidence index in construction fell from 119.7 to 117.6. Assessments on order books and construction plans and employment expectations worsened (from -33 to -34 and from -9 to -11, respectively).

The market services confidence index rose from 109.2 to 110.0. The index increased in Tourism services (from 101.9 to 104.8) and in Business services and Other services (from 100.4 to 104.4) while it decreased in Transportation and storage (from 126.7 to 125.6) and in Information and communication (from 109.4 to 106.8).

The retail trade confidence index rose from 105.9 to 106.5. The confidence increased in the large scale distribution (from 107.8 to 113.1) while it decreased in small and medium scale distribution (from 106.1 to 103.6).
