In 2011 enterprises of the industry and services sectors are 4.4 million and employ about 16.3 million of persons (11.1 million employees). The average enterprise size is 3.7 persons employed.
Italian enterprises make a value added of around 721 billion euros (+1.9% compared to 2010). The value added per person employed is 44 thousand euros, the personnel costs per employee are 35 thousand euros, wage and salaries per employee are 25 thousand euros, and the amount of profits over value added is 28.5%.
Micro-enterprises (those with less than 10 persons employed) represent 95.1% of active enterprises, 47.2% of persons employed and 31.4% of the total value added. 19.4% of persons employed and 31.2% of value added are concentrated. in larger enterprises (with 250 or more person employed).
The services sector – accounting for 76.3% of the enterprises, 63.8% of persons employed and 57.3% of the contribution to value added – proves to be, in terms of quantity, the most important sector of the national economy. The industry sector (excluding constructions) represents 10.2% of enterprises, 26% of persons employed and 34.6% of value added.
The constructions sector counts 13.5% of enterprises, 10.2% of persons employed and 8.1% of value added.
