Retail trade - April 2023
In April 2023 estimates for seasonally adjusted index of value sales rose by 0.2% in the month on month series, while volume dropped by 0.2%.
In the three months to April 2023 value of sales was up 1.1%, whereas volume of sales decreased by 0.7% when compared with the previous three-month period.
In April 2023 value of retail trade continued to grow for the 26th month in a row in the year on year series, rising by 3.2%, while volume sales fell by 4.8%.
In April 2023, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 7.2%, while both small-scale distribution and non-store retail sales were down 1.1%.
Online sales rose by 2.7% in April 2023 when compared with April 2022.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, data outlined a mixed picture across different categories in the year on year series. The strongest growths were reported for Cosmetic and toilet articles (+7.9%) and Sporting equipment, games and toys (+4.3%). The largest falls were reported for Pharmaceutical products (-3.2%) and Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines (-1.5%).
