Retail trade - May 2022
In May 2022 estimates for seasonally adjusted index of value sales increased by 1.9% in the month on month series, while volume rose by 1.5%.
In the three months to May 2022 value of sales grew by 1.1%, while volume of sales slightly dropped, falling by 0.1% when compared with the previous three-month period.
In May 2022 both value and volume of retail trade continued to grow for the 15th month in a row in the year on year series. Value sales increased by 7.0% and volume sales rose by 2.7% comparing to May 2021.
In May 2022, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 6.2%, small-scale distribution rose by 7.3% and non-store retail sales grew by 5.3%.
Online sales grew by 15.5% in May 2022 when compared with May 2021.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, all sectors experienced growth. The largest increases were reported for Shoes, leather goods and travel items (+15.6%) and Clothing (+13.2%), whereas the smallest growth was reported for Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines (+2.0%).
