Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in September 2014. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in September 2014 will be disseminated on coming 17 November.

In September 2014, exports to non-EU countries increased by 8.3% and imports decreased by 0.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 1,533 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 322 million euro surplus in the same month of 2013.

In September 2014, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 4.1% and imports increased by 3.4% compared with August 2014. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 0.6% increase in outgoing flows and a 2.5% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-September 2014 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 1.0% and imports decreased by 5.2% compared with the same period of 2013. The trade balance registered a surplus of 16,245 million euro compared to the surplus of 11,304 million euro in the same period of 2013. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 46,710 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 49,526 million euro surplus in January-September 2013.
