Foreign trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2010=100) referring to May 2014. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for May 2014 have been disseminated on June 24th.

  • In May 2014 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to April, increased by 2.2% for outgoing flows and by 3.2% for incoming flows. The growth in exports is the results of an increase in sales to non EU countries (+5.4%) and a decrease to EU countries (-0.4%). Imports increased for both EU countries (+2.1%) and non EU countries (+4.6%). Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous three months, showed a fall for both flows: -0.9% for exports and -1.4% for imports.
  • In May 2014, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade increased by 0.2% for exports (+2.4% for EU area and -2.3% for non EU countries) and by 0.9% for imports (+1.0% for EU and +0.8% for non EU countries). The trade balance in May amounted to +3.7 billion Euro (+1.2 billion Euro for EU area and +2.5 billion Euro for non EU countries) (Table 1).
