Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in December 2010. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in December 2010 will be disseminated on coming 15 February.

In December 2010, exports to non-EU countries increased by 19.2% and imports by 48.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 1,330 million euro compared with a 1,388 million euro surplus in the same month of 2009.

In December 2010, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 0.8% and imports increased by 3.1% compared with November 2010. Over the last three months, seasonallyadjusted data showed a 1.9% increase in outgoing flows and a 7.0% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In 2010 exports to non-EU countries increased by 16.7% and imports by 29.8% compared with 2009. The trade balance registered a deficit of 20,228 million euro compared to the deficit of 3,072 million euro in 2009. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 30,424 million euro compared with a 38,235 million euro surplus in 2009.
