Consumer prices - August 2026
Final data
In August 2026 the Italian consumer price index for the whole nation (NIC) was +0.5% compared with the previous month and +3.3% on annual basis (from +2.9%), confirming the flash estimate.
The acceleration of inflation was mainly due to the dynamics of prices of Non-regulated energy products (from +11.4% to +17.0%), of Regulated energy products (from +14.8% to +18.6%), of Durable goods (from +0.7% to +1.3%) and, to a lesser extent, of Unprocessed food (from +3.6% to +3.8%). By contrast, prices for Services related to recreation, including repair and personal care (from +3.0% to +2.6%) and of Services related to transport (from +1.6% to +0.8%) decelerated.
In August 2026, core inflation (excluding energy and unprocessed food) was +1.5% (from +1.6% in July) and inflation excluding energy was +1.7% (from +1.8% in the previous month).
The prices of Grocery and unprocessed food increased by 0.1% on monthly basis and by 0.9% on annual basis (down from +1.0% in the previous month).
The month-on-month increase in the overall index was mainly due to the prices of Regulated energy products (+3.0%), of Non-regulated energy products (+2.9%), of Services related to transport (+1.3%) and of Durable goods (+0.5%).
In August 2026 the Italian harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) recorded a month-on-month change of +1.0% (due to the summer sales not considered by NIC) and a year-on-year increase of +2.9% (from +3.0% in the previous month), confirming the flash estimate.
