Foreign trade and import prices - May 2026
In May 2026, seasonally adjusted data, there was a modest increase in exports (+0.2%) and a rise in imports (+1.5%) compared with April 2026. Exports decreased for EU countries (-0.4%), whilst increased for non-EU countries (+0.8%). Imports decreased by -0.2% for EU area, whilst rose by +3.5% for non-EU area.
Over the last quarter, compared with the previous one, seasonally adjusted data increased both for exports (+4.6%) and imports (+7.2%).
In May 2026, compared to the same month of the previous year, exports increased by +4.1% and imports by +7.3%. Outgoing flows grew by +1.7% for EU countries and by +6.8% for non-EU countries. Incoming flows rose by +1.3% for EU area and by +15.5% for non-EU area.
In May 2026, trade balance recorded a surplus of +4,793 million Euros (+845 million Euros surplus for EU countries and +3,948 million Euros surplus for non-EU countries). Excluding energy, the trade balance surplus amounted to +10,493 million Euros.
In May 2026, import prices increased by 0.4% on monthly basis (+0.5% for the euro zone, +0.3% for the non-euro zone). Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, import prices increased by 5.3% (+2.1% for the euro zone, +8.6% for the non-euro zone).
Import prices, compared to the same month a year ago, increased by 6.5% (+3.2% for the euro zone, +9.7% for the non-euro zone).
