General government account by subsector

Recent provisions from the Italian Parliament urge the Government to include updated forecasts for the general government account, detailing each subsector, in the upcoming Public Finance Planning Document.

To support the drafting of this document, Istat is today releasing preliminary data on the public sub-sector net lending/net borrowing for the years 2021 to 2024, earlier than the usual European deadline, which normally falls in the third week of October.

The data released today are to be considered provisional as they are subject to verification as part of the official data notification to Eurostat under the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP). The notification process will be completed by October 21, when the final data for the EU countries will be published.
