Employment and unemployment (provisional estimates) - July 2025
In July 2025 the number of employed and inactive people increased, while unemployed people decreased.
On a monthly basis, employment grew (+0.1%, +13 thousand) for men and in the 15-24 and 35-49 age groups. In all other age groups and for women, employment decreased. Overall, the employment rate rose to 62.8% (+0.1 p.p.).
In the last month, the decline in the number of unemployed people (-4.6%, -74 thousand) affected both sexes and all age groups. The unemployment rate fell to 6.0% (-0.3 p.p.), as well as the youth rate, down to 18.7% (-1.4 p.p.).
In July, the number of inactive people increased (+0.2%, +30 thousand) for women and for those in the 25-34 and 50+ age groups, while for men and in the other age groups the number of inactive people dropped. The inactivity rate rose to 33.2% (+0.1 p.p.).
In the quarter May-July 2025, with respect to the previous one (February-April 2025), employment increased (+0.2%, +51 thousand).
On a quarterly basis, a rise was registered in the number of unemployed persons (+1.8%, +28 thousand) while the number of inactive people aged 15-64 years decreased (-0.5%, -67 thousand).
Compared with July 2024, the number of employed persons increased by 0.9% (+218 thousand); the growth affected both sexes and those in the 25-34 and 50+ age groups, while employment decreased in the other age groups. Over the year, the employment rate showed a rise of 0.4 p.p. .
On a yearly basis, the increase of employed people was accompanied by a fall in both unemployed (-6.9%, -114 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-0.7%, -81 thousand).
