Employment and unemployment (provisional estimates) - June 2025

In June 2025 the number of employed and inactive people increased, while unemployed people decreased.

On a monthly basis, employment grew (+0.1%, +16 thousand) for women and all age groups, except for those aged 35-49 for whom employment decreased, as it did for men. Overall, the employment rate remained unchanged at 62.9%.

In the last month, the decline in the number of unemployed people (-4.2%, -71 thousand) affected both sexes and all age groups. The unemployment rate fell to 6.3% (-0.3 p.p.), as well as the youth rate, down to 20.1% (-1.4 p.p.).

In June, the number of inactive people increased (+0.6%, +69 thousand) for men and people under the age of 50, while among women and people aged 50+ the number of inactive people dropped. The inactivity rate rose to 32.8% (+0.2 p.p.).

In the quarter April-June 2025, with respect to the previous one (January-March 2025), employment increased (+0.4%, +93 thousand).

On a quarterly basis, a rise was registered in the number of unemployed persons (+1.2%, +20 thousand) while the number of inactive people aged 15-64 years decreased (-0.7%, -81 thousand).

Compared with June 2024, the number of employed persons increased by 1.5% (+363 thousand); the growth affected both sexes and people aged 50+, while employment decreased for those aged 15-49. Over the year, the employment rate showed a rise of 0.6 p.p. .

On a yearly basis, the increase of employed people was accompanied by a fall in both unemployed (-5.5%, -94 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-1.2%, -142 thousand).
