In the European tender Istat is awarded the twinning project financed by the European Union (KH 22 NDICI ST 01 23_EuropeAid/179113/DD/ACT/KH) to improve the quality of the statistical system in Cambodia. The twinning aims at improving the National Statistical System (NSS) of Cambodia through strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) for the collection, production and dissemination of statistics.
Istat will lead the Consortium of European National Statistical Institutes: France (Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques – INSEE), Lithuania (State Data Agency – Statistics Lithuania) and Poland (Główny Urząd Statystyczny, GUS – Statistics Poland). Together high-level skills, experiences and capabilities of the European National Statistical Institutes will be made available, including the support of the Italian Geographic Society. Activities will be carried out in the project to contribute to the development of the quality and international comparability of Cambodian official statistics and to support the country’s development agendas. For these activities 3 components are foreseen:
- Strengthening an organizational system (coordination and cooperation mechanisms within the NIS and NSS) responsible for managing the quality of official statistics
- Improve methodological consistency for the collection, production and dissemination of statistics
- Updating training systems for the staff.
This project adds to the other projects that Istat is carrying out in various areas of the world (Jordan, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Bosnia), providing technical assistance and support for strengthening the statistical capacity of the National Statistical Institutes and Statistical Systems nationals of least advanced or developing countries, of countries covered by the neighborhood policy and of those involved in the EU accession process.
