There are 8,034 students registered for the 14th edition of the Italian Statistics Olympics: 27.8 percent more than the previous year’s edition, consolidating the growth of recent years. Among them, 4,706 are boys (58.6 percent of the total) and 3,328 girls (41.4 percent). Coming from 169 schools, the students are distributed over almost the entire country. <\/p>\n

At the individual region level, Veneto ranks first in total enrollment (1,221), while for female participation, Umbria has the highest share of female students (47.1 percent), and Abruzzo the lowest (27.3 percent).<\/p>\n

Now in its 14th edition, the competition organized by Istat and SIS is aimed at the first four years of upper secondary schools. The goal is to bring participants closer to statistical reasoning, to arouse their interest in data analysis and probability, and to enable them to better understand the meaning of the quantitative information they receive every day.<\/p>\n

The individual test, consisting of 20 questions with multiple-choice answers to be completed in 40 minutes, will take place from 16 to 19 January 2024, according to the schedule made available to the schools involved. The team test will follow in February. The winners of the Italian phase are scheduled to participate in the European statistics competition<\/a><\/p>\n
