The index provides daily measures of the Italian sentiment on the economy. These measures are derived from samples of Italian public posts captured in real time.<\/p>\n<p>The production procedure of the index collects and processes posts containing at least one word belonging to a specific set of filter keywords, which has been designed by subject-matter experts. On average, this procedure elaborates through sentiment analysis techniques about 26,000 posts per day.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/SMEI-EN-2016_02_10-2024_09_30.xlsx\">daily time series<\/a> of the index is available in the download section from the period 10th February 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the recent advances in sentiment analysis methods and to the experimental nature of the index, the data processing procedure has been partially revised and the time series has been recalculated on the occasion of the release of the fourth quarter of 2021.<br \/>\nA dedicated paragraph of the methodological note available in the download section describes the main innovations introduced and the main differences with the previous release.<\/p>\n<p>With the release of the data for the first quarter of 2022, a focus on the Social Mood on Economy Index for the period February 20-March 20 was released to analyze the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs5.istat.it\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Ukraine-social-mood.pdf\">impact of the Ukrainian invasion on the index<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--\n\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 15px; background-color: #ededed; border-top: 3px #8cc63f solid; border-bottom: 3px #6FA51A solid; padding: 10px 20px; margin-top: 30px;\"><strong>HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong>\nThe seasonal component of the series shows positive peaks in December and in the period late March - early April, and a negative peak in the summer months.\nIn the first quarter of 2021, the trend component of the Social Mood on Economy Index shows a clear decrease in the first 10 days of January followed by a slight upturn in the following 20 days, the growth also covers the entire month of February, instead the last month of the quarter shows a drop that finally brings the indicator back to December 2020 values.  --><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/storage\/iframesnew\/SMEI-Index-2016_02_10-2024_09_30.html\" width=\"100%\" height=\"580px\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"\/storage\/iframesnew\/SMEI-Index-2016_02_10-2024_09_30.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enlarge to full screen<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This interactive plot shows the daily time series of the Social Mood on Economy Index (green line), along with the corresponding 7-days (blue line) and 30-days (red line) moving averages. The higher the value of the index, the better is the sentiment of the day.<br \/>\nThe significant peaks and valleys of the daily index have been annotated and are highlighted with a small square. Discontinuities in the time series correspond either to downtime periods of the data collection system, or to the deletion of anomalous data generated by off-topic viral posts (for details, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs5.istat.it\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/SMEI-EN-2016_02_10-2024_09_31.xlsx\">daily time series<\/a> available in the download section).<br \/>\nThe significant peaks of the daily volume are highlighted with a small square.
