{"id":13267,"date":"2023-12-22T12:26:35","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T11:26:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/?page_id=13267"},"modified":"2025-09-16T10:34:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T08:34:54","slug":"scientific-use-files-sufs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/en\/data\/microdata\/scientific-use-files-sufs\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientific use Files (SUFs)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Scientific use files may be requested exclusively for carrying out specific research projects by researchers belonging to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/storage\/Microdati\/Enti-riconosciuti-Comstat.pdf\">Entities recognised as research institutions by Comstat<\/a>\u00a0or included in the list of research Institutions recognised by Eurostat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failing such requirement, it is necessary to activate the procedure for the recognition of the relevant Entity as a matter of priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to request SUFs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for access to SUFs, the&nbsp;<strong>Principal researcher<\/strong>&nbsp;of an accredited research entity shall submit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Research proposal&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Annex3-Research_proposal.pdf\">facsimile<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Confidentiality Declaration of the Principal Researcher<\/strong>&nbsp;of the Research proposal \u2013 (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Annex4-Confidentiality_declaration_Principal_Researcher.pdf\">facsimile<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Confidentiality Declaration of individual Researchers<\/strong>&nbsp;involved in the project \u2013 (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Annex5-Confidentiality_declaration_Individual_Researchers.pdf\">facsimile<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional certification<\/strong>&nbsp;(in case of Joint projects) \u2013 (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.istat.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Annex6-Joint_projects.pdf\">facsimile<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Principal Researcher<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Principal Researcher should have one of the following qualifications: university professor (full, associate, aggregate or contract professor); researcher or similar positions; research grant-holder, manager of recognized research institutes, employee of entities carrying out research activities, member of scientific societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n\t<section class=\"gblock spacer white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-1\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_1\" data-blockcount=\"1\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\t<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t\t<div><\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\r\n<section class=\"gblock separatore white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-2\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_2\" data-blockcount=\"2\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\r\n<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t<div class=\"d-flex justify-content-center\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contact person for microdata requests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Contact person for microdata requests shall be the same as the contact person indicated in the Application form for Recognition as a research entity. In the case of recognition by Eurostat, the name of the \u201cContact person\u201d shall be given, and, if necessary, can be requested directly to Eurostat by sending an email to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:Estat-microdata-access@ec.europa.eu\">Estat-microdata-access@ec.europa.eu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n\t<section class=\"gblock spacer white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-3\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_3\" data-blockcount=\"3\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\t<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t\t<div><\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\r\n<section class=\"gblock separatore white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-4\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_4\" data-blockcount=\"4\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\r\n<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t<div class=\"d-flex justify-content-center\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Joint project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A joint project is a research project involving the collaboration of two or more entities. All participating organisations must be recognized as research entities. The model refferring to a joint project must also be signed by the Contact person for microdata requests of each related entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n\t<section class=\"gblock spacer white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-5\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_5\" data-blockcount=\"5\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\t<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t\t<div><\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\r\n<section class=\"gblock separatore white-bg  py-0\"  aria-labelledby=\"section-6\"><div class=\"container p-lg-0 block_count_6\" data-blockcount=\"6\"><div class=\"row pb-2\">\r\n<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t<div class=\"d-flex justify-content-center\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal me-3\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"divider-horizontal\">&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<p>This request shall be formally submitted through the Istat&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/contact.istat.it\/s\/?language=en_US\">Contact Centre<\/a>, by selecting the service \u201cRelease of microdata\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The files are released in text format. Old editions only also include import programs for STATA, SAS, and R.
