Birth and fertility of the resident population

In 2008, 576,659 births were registered in municipal population registers, roughly 13,000 more than the previous year (563,933 in 2007).

These figures confirm the recovery that began in the second half of the 90s (after 30 years of decline): 1995 was the year of minimum in the number of births (526,064) and in the Total Fertility Rate (1.19 children per woman).
