The crops early estimates declared  by holders pointed out a light decrease of arable land (-1.3%), as regards the agricultural year 2014-2015.

The forecasts pointed out decreases of common wheat surfaces (-7,6%), grain maize (-8.0%) and sorghum (-8.5%), while increases characterized durum wheat (+2.9%), rice (+0.7%) and minor cereals, such as barley (+ 3.6%), oats (+ 0.3%) and other cereals (+ 10.5%).

As for industrial plants, decreases should characterize surfaces used for tobacco (-26,2%), rape and turnip rape (-6.5%), sunflower (-0.7%) and “other industrial plants” (-30.2%) as well; on the other hand, soya is going to increase 13.5%.

As regards vegetables, decreases should characterize tomato (-1.9%), fresh vegetables (-0.3%) and “other vegetables” (-9,9%).

Increases of land use are expected for field beans (+12.7%), peas (+5.3%) and “other dried pulses” (+4.4%).

As regards fodder crops, areas for fodder maize are going to decrease (-20.1%), while the farmers’ intentions indicate an increase of areas for “other fodder crops” (+3.6%).

Decreases have been also forecasted as regards areas for cultivation of potato (-3.6%) and sugar beet (-3.9%).

For the agricultural year 2014-2015, the land used for flowers and ornamental plants is expected to increase 1%. Moderate increase should also characterize fallow land (+0.2%), mainly due to the multi-yearly agronomic rotation (61.9% of agricultural holdings) and, to a lesser extent, to the uncertainty about the market dynamics and/or to poor earnings (19.2% of agricultural holdings).
