Istat and the Italian Statistical Society (SIS) sponsored the 2010-2011 ISLP Poster Competition. The competition was organised by the International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP) under the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE).
The initiative aimed to increase awareness of statistics among students and teachers throughout the world, to promote statistical literacy resources and to bring together parties interested in statistical literacy in each country.
The competition was to create a statistical poster on environment and was open to students grouped in teams. Teams were registered by teachers within 15 November 2010 by completing the registration form on line. Posters had to be submitted within and not later than 18 April 2011 to the email address firstname.lastname@example.org.
International winners will be awarded at 58th ISI World Statistics Congress 2011 to be held in Dublin on 21-26 August 2011.
In May 2011 the Istat-Sis National Committee, responsible for selecting the Italian posters to be sent to the international jury unanimously chose:
1. For the category of students born in 1995 and later, Pollution-free environment and economic development: could it be a possible combination? - ITCT A. Bordoni - Pavia, Teacher: Maria Aurora Mangiarotti; Student authors: Marco Sambugaro, Martina Ferrari, Luca Paganin;
2. For the category of students born between 1992 and 1994, Italian energies - Scientific High School G. B. Grassi - Lecco, Professor: Bruna Ponziani; Student authors: Federica Chea, Benedetta Milani, Andrea Rusconi.
The motivation was the following: "The two selected posters have interesting content and both show a good use of sources and statistical data to argue an issue, reaching significant conclusions. They are also visually pleasant and in good taste".
