Binario dieci

Active since 2002, "Binariodieci" is a dedicated space allowing school students to access "statistics" through a guided tour of data and official methodologies used at national and international levels.

The aim is to make statistics familiar to students. In other words: to promote numeracy from the earliest stages of education. The major statistical institutes all over the world are moving in this direction, making use of the new opportunities offered by Internet.

This space, built together with schools, places working materials and tools at their disposal. Teachers and students who are interested in statistical information, in the methodologies adopted, and in the use of numbers in daily life, can access Istat through binariodieci.

Istat's initiatives for students:

• organising visits to the departments that produce statistics;
• arranging lessons with experts in the various areas surveyed;
• providing assistance for students and teachers with research and surveys they plan to conduct;
• promoting partnerships between Istat and schools to produce educational materials.
