Foreign trade with non-EU countries

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in September 2017. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in September 2017 will be disseminated on coming 16 November.

In September 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 8.1% and imports increased by 4.7% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 3,540 million euro compared with a 2,892 million euro surplus in the same month of 2016.

In September 2017, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 2.0% and imports decreased by 3.4% compared with August 2017. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.2% increased in outgoing flows and a 3.4% decreased in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-September 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 8.2% and imports increased by 12.4% compared with the same period of
2016. The trade balance registered a surplus of 24,080 million euro compared to the surplus of 26,379 million euro in the same period of 2016. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 48,196 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 44,859 million euro surplus in January-September 2016.
