Foreign trade with non-EU countries

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in May 2017. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in May 2017 will be disseminated on coming 14 July.

In May 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 13.9% and imports increased by 22.3% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 2,658 million euro compared with a 3,257 million euro surplus in the same month of 2016.

In May 2017, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 2.2% and imports increased by 4.3% compared with April 2017. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.5% increase in outgoing flows and a 1.6% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-May 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 9.3% and imports increased by 16.0% compared with the same period of 2016. The trade balance registered
a surplus of 10,204 million euro compared to the surplus of 13,012 million euro in the same period of 2016. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 24,436 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 22,764 million euro surplus in January-May 2016.
