Foreign trade with non-EU countries

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in February 2017. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in February 2017 will be disseminated on coming 19 April.

In February 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 3.6% and imports increased by 11.9% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 1,717 million euro compared with a 2,607 million euro surplus in the same month of 2016.

In February 2017, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 4.7% and imports decreased by 0.4% compared with January 2017. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data of outgoing flows showed a 4.9% increase in outgoing flows and a 10.4% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-February 2017 exports to non-EU countries increased by 10.7% and imports increased by 17.1% compared with the same
period of 2016. The trade balance registered a surplus of 826 million euro compared to the surplus of 2,120 million euro in the same period of 2016. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 6,800 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 5,650 million euro surplus in January-February 2016.
