Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in August 2015. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in August 2015 will be disseminated on coming 16 October.

In August 2015, exports to non-EU countries decreased by 3.4% and imports decreased by 1.6% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 1,472 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 1,717 million euro surplus in the same month of 2014.

In August 2015, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 8.1% and imports decreased by 3.2% compared with July 2015. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 4.6% decrease in outgoing flows and a 1.5% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-August 2015 exports to non-EU countries increased by 5.6% and imports increased by 0.6% compared with the same period of 2014. The trade balance registered a surplus of 20,364 million euro compared to the surplus of 14,523 million euro in the same period of 2014. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 41,114 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 42,306 million euro surplus in January-August 2015
