Agritourism farms in Italy

In 2013, there were 20,897 agritourism farms (agritourism farms licensed to provide accomodation), 423 more than the previous year (+2.1%).

During 2013, new farms licensed for agritourism were 1,697, the ceased ones were 1,274. Compared with 2012, an increase was registered for both new licences (+411 units) and ceased (+49 units).

Agritourism farms are continuing to offer several services. Tourist packages continue to be offered along with different services, aimed to a better qualification of the agritourist activity linked to the territory where it is located: 7,628 farms provide both accomodation and food serving services, while 10,184 farms add to accommodation other agritourism activities.

Compared to 2012, the number of agritourism farm increases above all in the North (+6.1%) and at a lesser extent in the Centre area (+1.1%), while it decreases in the South and the Islands areas (-2.1%).

42.1% of agritourism farms providing accomodation, 46.9% of those providing food services and 43.8% of those providing tasting of local typical food is located in the North, while 41.9% of the farms with other agritourism activities is located in the Centre area.

Toscana  and Alto Adige, with 4,108 and 3,098 farms, are the territories with longstanding and consolidated agritourism tradition.

Over one agritourism farm out of three is managed by a woman; the highest concentration is to be found in Toscana, with 1,675 farms, equal to 40.8% of regional total and to 22.5% of national totale of agritourism farms managed by women.
