Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in April 2014. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in April 2014 will be disseminated on coming 17 June.

In April 2014, exports to non-EU countries decreased by 1,7% and imports decreased by 3.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 1,649 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 1,455 million euro surplus in the same month of 2013.

In April 2014, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 0.2% and imports increased by 0.4% compared with March 2014. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.9% decrease in outgoing flows and a 2.5% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-April 2014 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 2.0% and imports decreased by 6.7% compared with the same period of 2013. The trade balance registered a surplus of 4,821 million euro compared to the surplus of 2,269 million euro in the same period of 2013. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 18,519 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 20,201 million euro surplus in January-April 2013.
