About Istat

Quality tools

Quality tools have been developed by Istat according to the framework defined by Eurostat for the European Statistical System.

Istat has adopted the Eurostat quality definition which identifies the following main features (or quality components): relevance, accuracy, timeliness and punctuality, accessibility and clarity, consistency and comparability.

Eurostat has also established guidelines for measuring the quality of both statistical products and processes in accordance with quality components. Moreover, it has provided information on how to produce quality reports to inform data users (ESS Handbook for Quality Reports e ESS Standard for Quality Reports).

In recent years a rich set of selected ESS practices have been developed, too, for the harmonisation of methodologies and techniques used in the European Statistical System.

In the wake of it Istat has provided some tools to improve the quality of statistical processes and products, meant to be useful and relevant not only for producers of statistics and researchers, but also, in a broadly way, for data users. They are specifically:
